In the Opening for the ITV news at ten you can draw the following stereotypical connotations
- Big Ben due to its height could be considered a phallic-symbol.
- As well as this Big Ben is a clock so it also implies on the spot current time headlines.
- You can see a revolving image of the earth this implies global communication.
- Motorways sped up (symbolism for fast traveling information)
In contradiction to this however is a female voice over which disrupts the regular stereotypes of a masculine voice over.
News Readers
There are two news readers in the opening the first is a man in his mid 50's this connotes older wisdom and an intellectual nature the other is a woman in her mid 30's she connotes boobs.
Mise-en-scene
The studio is super modern with all but an out of place wooden floor too contradict the sharp grey and blue plastics of the room. The desk is hyper modern and looks like something from "Tron" this could connote that it is a hub of information and is constantly full of the worlds news, it denotes they have a lot of money and wealth. The touchscreen tablets/computers on the desks in front of the readers again show this technological advancement and connectivity. All the television screens in the background once again connote the connectivity and bank of information this news show draws it's information from.
